Demolition work on a home located at the corner of Oak and Sixth Street began the week of December 16.
The home, situated in Newport's East Row, is currently undergoing demolition. While the official start date for the demolition was December 16, residents may have observed equipment arriving during the week of December 10. According to city officials, the project is expected to take up to 30 days, although it could be completed in as little as one week.
The property was reviewed by the Historic Preservation Commission and received approval for demolition due to the condition of the house.
"We just want to give people a heads up in case they had questions after seeing the equipment or the demolition in process," said Assistant City Manager Brian Steffen, who also serves as Newport Planning and Building Director.
