Midland - Jerry Sutkamp, 88, passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2025. Born during the Great Flood of the Ohio River on January 22, 1937, in Dayton, Kentucky, Jerry grew up with rich memories of his family's survival and his close relationship with his sister, Joyce. He excelled in sports, hunting, and fishing, graduating from Newport Catholic, Eastern Kentucky University, and the University of Louisville Medical School. After serving as a Lieutenant and flight surgeon in the US Navy, Jerry pursued a career in family practice and weight control medicine.

His passion for mentoring extended to his sons, teaching invaluable life lessons and sharing his sense of humor.

As the team "Doc" for the 1977-1981 Bellevue Football teams, Jerry cherished the memories of their State Championships. His leadership extended to his role as the National Medical Director of Physicians Weight Loss Centers, where he served for 25 years. Jerry's legacy lives on through his 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who adoringly knew him as "Poppy."
